The three dimensional design represents the Twin Towers in New York City and, on reflection, how our lives in the USA will forever be changed. Designed from my original BJ's Cabin blocks (inspired from traditional log cabin blocks), I worked this "Twin Towers" quilt with a rust and blue color theme with red accents. Blocks are constructed with crazy patch working using multiply shades and colors of fabric. "Twin Towers" measures 32" by 24". I used a lot of my hand dyed and painted fabrics, along with commercial batiks and geometric prints, satins, and lames. The most important factors in achieving the 3-d effect is the value selection of your fabrics - I discuss this in the instructions.
BJ's Twin Towers in rust and blues
I used linear quilting on the building surfaces to add shading and dimension. To complete the quilting I used unmarked free motion quilting.
Below is Bunny's wonderful quilt! She is a spectacular pattern tester with such creative energy. I love her quilt it illustrates how you can use the pattern to suit your fabric stash, color taste, and quilting preference. Bunny described her colors as follows: "The light colors are from seafoam green, pale green. The medium colors are many shades of blues, to purple and some med aqua. The dark colors are mostly greens with a little dark aqua green. The background fabrics mediums are golden yellow, rusts with some med browns. The darker colors are mostly dark rusts to dark browns and for the centers of all blocks I used coral." She added a navy border and binding to set off the blocks.
Bunny's Twin Towers
Bunny wanted to showcase all of her wonderful fabrics so she decided to stitch in the ditch on all the seams. As you can see she used geometric prints as well as floral. What a creative idea! Then she free motion quilted in the border.
